Unfortunately, Sarai died during the mission because of Avizandum, and would later be made a statue in her honor, which Amaya would always go to honor her memory every time she could.Īmaya became the general of a group of soldiers that defended the border between Xadia and the Human Kingdoms, which is the main reason why she wasn't able to be with her brother-in-law Harrow when he was killed by Moon Shadow assassins.Īmaya is first seen going to the winter lodge where Ezran and Callum where because she was ordered by Harrow to protect them while they were in there before he was killed. One day, she helped Sarai in defeating a magma titan and retreaving its heart to save the kingdoms of Katolis and Duren, by giving boost to Sarai for her to deliver the finishing blow on the titan and personaly retreaving the heart. Amaya was born deaf, so she communicated through sign laguage. Sarai was born as the sister of Sarai, who, and according to Opeli, she trained the army of Catolis alongside Sarai and turned it into the most powerful and disciplined army in the human kingdoms. She is also the leader and general of the Standing Battalion, one of the most powerful armies in Katolis. Her close friend and tursted lieutenant Gren is her primary language interpreter. She is deaf and comunicates through sign language. ~ Amaya trying to convince the Six Horns not to kill Lucia.Īmaya is the younger sister of the late Queen Sarai and maternal aunt of Callum and Ezran, as well as a major protagonist in the series The Dragon Prince. We gain nothing if we throw away the chance to learn and grow. But all I ask is that your justice is compassionate. Prince Karim is correct, she had every opportunity to consider the pain she could cause. ~ Amaya while praying in Sarai's statue made in the latter's honor. Your children were safe and I let them slip away. Perfect, strong and unbreakable, kind and loyal. I just have a different way of thinking about it that allows me to be okay with it without really caring about getting a translation.Hello sister. I can see how it's disconcerting/frustrating for others, and I do sympathize. That said, that's a scenario I'm pretty comfortable with. With enough context, my brain just fills in in English what I would think would be said in a scene like that, and a good chunk of the time, it's more or less correct. To me, it's akin to being able to get the gist of a given scene of a drama in a language I don't speak. I think those are all pretty clear in their intent if not their exact meaning to the casual viewer just from the context. Sarai's grave, giving Gren his instructions, the scene at the Breach, and chuckling at Harrow. I admittedly have the advantage of understanding a bit of ASL myself (though not nearly enough to understand more than about 10% of what Amaya says at any given time without an interpreter), as well as having a husband who understands it much better than I do and who can give me a quick translation on the fly as needed, but I think a lot of the scenes where she doesn't have an interpreter do speak for themselves even before I know exactly what she's signing.
